Barone Ricasoli winery is considered the world's oldest, founded in 1141 by the Ricasoli family. In 1874 the Baron Ricasoli defines the composition of Chianti Classico, with the Sangiovese grape leading to the creation of the most famous Italian wines. The Castello di Brolio located in the heart of Tuscany between Siena and Florence, has an area of 1,200 hectares, only a small portion is devoted to agriculture, 26 240 hectares to olive and the vine. The majority grape variety is Sangiovese and small amounts of Merlot and Malvasia used only for the Vin Santo, younger version of Chianti Classico.
