It has been 275 years since Don Diego de Alvear y Escalera, began in 1729 the production in the town of Montilla, region of Andalusia, Spain, the very first wines of Alvear. Since then, Alvear has continued to progress and develop in a continuous and harmonious manner.
Eight generations of the Alvear family have gradually contributed to the technical modernization of the winery and preserving its architectural heritage. Culture, tradition, taste and vanguards go hand in hand to conserve and preserve the Pedro Ximenez grape, the queen of DO Montilla-Moriles.
Throughout its 275 years' history, the Alvear winery has preserved its family character, maintaining its roots while generating new expectations and ventures. The ownership of the winery has been passed down from father to son. A venture created over nearly three centuries which has generated new projects and new wines, in new zones and with renewed expectations.
Alvear is the oldest winery in Andalusia, a historic bodega of acknowledged prestige for nearly three centuries and till today remains on the very same top.
