Catalonia wines

Catalonia is the community of Spain with the greatest number of denominations of origin. The main reasons for this is the extension of the geography of Catalonia, with coastal areas, plains or mountains, and the existing climatic variation, with a predominantly Mediterranean climate, but with many small differences that offer differentiated features to each of the wines produced there.

Catalonia’s varieties of climates have allowed different regions where different wines are produced. These wines get the denomination of origin, which gives its name to strong products, like the ones of Priorato, or to more innovative ones, such as those produced by Ampurdán-Costa Brava.

Among the varieties grown in Catalonia is white Chardonnay, present in much of its land, Garnacha Blanca, Pansa Blanca, Macabeo or Parellada. The red wines are mainly Tempranillo, Trepat and Cabernet Sauvignon strains.
