One day he received a visit and when he realized he had no gin -which was what usually mixed with lemon- and had only rum, decided to create a cocktail with some lemons from the garden and some fruits. Later this cocktail was becoming increasingly popular in Cuba, and when the American fleet landed in Cuba, Cox offered this drink made of rum to the admiral, who -delighted- loaded a frigate with Cuban rum and introduced the “Daiquiri” in the Army and Navy Club in Washington.

- 1 ½ parts white rum
- 1 part lemon juice
- ½ part sugar
- ½ part grenadine
Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice, shake well and strain into a tall glass (you can decorate with cherries).
- 1 part white rum
- 1 ½ parts milk
- 1 ½ parts strawberry juice
Pour all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice, shake well and strain into a cocktail glass with ice; decorate with a strawberry or some mint leaves and serve.
- 1 ½ parts rum
- ½ part pippermint
- 2 drops of lemon juice
Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice, shake well and strain over a cocktail glass.
Fruit punch with rum
- 1 ½ liters of fruit juice
- ½ pound of sugar
- 1 bottle of aged rum
- 6 bottles of lemon, orange or pineapple soda
Mix the fruit juice with the sugar. When the sugar is dissolved, add the aged rum, then let it marinate for 6 hours before serving and add soda. To serve you must put it in a punch bowl surrounded by ice.
American Grog (hot cocktail)
- ¼ lemon juice
- ¾ rum
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Boiling water to taste.
Mix all ingredients in a glass vessel and serve.
