Gerardo Machado was the 5th president of the Republic of Cuba, born in 1871, president in the period 1925-1933 and died in Miami Beach in 1939 at 67 years of age.

Probably not as well known globally as the Cuba Libre (rum and cola) but with a very unique and appealing taste, it gains easily the favoritism of those who enjoy it for the first time.

President cocktail ingredients

  • 1/2 ounce white rum
  • 1/2 ounce red vermouth
  • Grenadine
  • Cherry
  • Orange zest

President cocktail preparation

  1. Step 1: Place in a shaker ½ ounce of red vermouth, ½ ounce of white rum, a few drops of grenadine and pieces of crushed ice.
  2. Step 2: Shake the ingredients, strain and proceed to serve in cocktail glasses.
  3. Step 3: Squeeze orange zest on the glass to add flavor and garnish the top with it.
  4. Step 4: Finally garnish the cocktail with a cherry and enjoy.

The stage of most popularity of this cocktail was between the 1920s and 1940s, when the upper class Cuban society gave it a special place at his nightly meetings and toasts, with the benchmark of being invented in honor of the Cuban President Machado.

It’s a refreshing cocktail that can be enjoyed with friends on a hot afternoon.
