The best drinks for the reception at a business event

A new year starts and, with it, corporate meetings, fair events, presentations and others social meetings where organizations will be represented. When the time comes to organize such events, the drinks offered are fundamental, as well as the catering, which should be available to everyone and should suit different tastes.

To accompany appetizers, most of them light, small and both hot and cold, a good idea is to start with champagne cocktails. They usually are served in glasses in the moment of making a first contact with everyone at the time of stopping to eat these delicacies.

Depending on the time that the appetizer is served, it is also important to have juices (two different natural juices will be enough) and some soft drinks, since some people may be very thirsty after the business event held.

After the glass of champagne cocktail, the tables should have white wine and red wine. Such wines are recommended to be low in alcohol, but high in quality, and from designations of origin related to the place where the event is held or from where the company comes. It is always better to serve local wines, as the attendants, some of them surely wine connoisseurs, may taste the specialities of each place.

Along with wines, beers must also excel in case someone does not want or can drink wine, being a much more refreshing drink. It is also advisable to serve local beer or even better, to give a different touch, craft beer.

Vermouth is also appreciated in such events. White vermouth is more elegant and low in alcohol. In other parties often they serve cocktails at the entrance of the reception, which can be alcohol free, something refreshing that leaves a good taste to get into the meal or to get back to business events ahead. While giving an original cocktail with a dash of alcohol is always pleasant for the attendants.

In many corporate events, depending on the type of organization and action, it is best to have the classics in terms of drinks: a prestigious champagne, the most consumed local beer, a wine of a known designation or a cocktail with familiar flavours.

During this holiday season, nothing better than choosing a high quality and tasty beverage as a gift. Far from the typical gifts, quite impersonal, if we know that the lucky one appreciates gastronomy and beverages, a good rum sure will be a success.

The first stage is choosing the type of rum. For example, white rum, somewhat yellowish colour, is less strong and tastes like fruit unlike other types. The prestigious Bacardi brand began his history with this type of rum, basically to please palates of some areas in the United States, who wanted a rather soft drink. So for a person who does not like strong flavours, this is the right type of rum.

Brown or dark rum is usually ideal for more demanding palates, which already understand about the diversity of types of rum. The characteristic flavours are wood, strong fruits or even smoked. They are the highest quality and well-known, and many remain longer in barrel. Perhaps less known, we can also choose to give a spiced rum. Not the “Ferrari” of rums, but it goes very well to combine with other drinks such as soft drinks and is more original.

If you don’t understand much about rums and we want to give a quality one, then we must look at a series of specific parameters. On the one hand, the colour, since if it’s darker it means that it’s been in barrel for more time. It must be both transparent and translucent at the same time. While the smell must remind us of wood, coffee and chocolate. In mouth, it should taste a little bitter, sweet, salty… it is good alone and also in combination, and should be served in a brandy glass.

The Paris Cocktail Week is an event that brings together the best cocktail proposals at different venues such as Soi, Bastille, Champs Elysées, Haut Marais, Motorgueil, Opera-Madeleine, Republic S-Denis, Saint Germaine… And at this event we were inspired to introduce you some cocktails, both delicious and “chic”.

Orangutan

  • 1/2 oz coconut rum
  • 1/2 oz banana liqueur
  • 3 ounces Half-and-Half (mixture of equal parts of milk and cream)
  • 1 ½ ounces orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon grenadine syrup

Preparation:

  1. Pour into a shaker Malibu rum, banana liqueur, the half and half, orange juice and grenadine.
  2. Fill the remaining half with ice cubes.
  3. Shake and serve in a tall glass.

Orchard

This is a fruity and refreshing cocktail made from vodka and mixed fruit, ideal for late afternoon.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pureed ripe pear
  • 3/4 ounce orange juice
  • 1 ¼ ounce apple vodka
  • 1 tablespoon peach cream liqueur
  • 1 ounce Lillet Blanc
  • To garnish, a piece of peach, 1 piece of apple and a sprig of mint.

Preparation:

  • Place the pear puree, orange juice, apple vodka, peach cream liqueur and Lillet Blanc in the shaker.
  • Add ice and shake.
  • Strain and serve in a glass, use the pieces of fruit used and the sprig of mint for garnish.

Mint Julep:

It is a drink to serve with breakfast and savor slowly. The term Julep is used to refer to sweet drinks. There are pre-mixed mint juleps but they are not the same quality as one of these cocktails made completely at home.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon syrup
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 6 mint leaves
  • Ice

Preparation:

  1. Crush the mint leaves and sugar to put them in the bottom of the glass.
  2. Add crushed ice.
  3. Complete with syrup and bourbon.
  4. Mix and garnish with a mint leaf.

  • 60 ml Gin

Cocktail: Red Eye

  • 30 ml Vodka

Take a tall frozen glass and pour in the vodka and tomato juice. Then add the beer and finally, crack the egg into your Red Eye. Do not stir. The egg makes the recipe sounds weird, right? It’s “Cocktails and Dreams”! Are you brave enough to try it?

Yuzu has such a pleasant smell that some Japanese add it in the design of perfumes, and they even have a winter solstice ritual, “Toji”, consisting of bathing with the fruit.

The Yuzu Julep cocktail is, among other things, a delicious cocktail with citrus aroma and flavour, combining the delicate flavours of mint, yuzu juice and other ingredients such as sugar syrup and rum, so present in other drinks.

Ingredients:

  • 6 cl Yamazaki 12 years
  • 6 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sugar syrup
  • 1.5 cl yuzu juice

Yuzu cocktail preparation:

  1. Put the mint with sugar syrup in the mixing glass.
  2. Put crushed ice, whiskey and yuzu juice in a short glass.
  3. Pour the ingredients from the mixing glass and garnish with a sprig of mint.

A variation of Yuzu cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 6 cl light rum
  • 2.2 cl Vanilla vodka
  • 12.7 cl Triple Sec
  • 2.9 cl simple syrup
  • 1 ½ cups yuzu juice
  • Soda

Preparation:

  1. Place the yuzu juice, triple sec, simple syrup and vodka in a shaker.
  2. Add crushed ice to the shaker and shake for 15 minutes.
  3. Strain the result into a glass, complete with soda and serve.

Banana Blitzer

This recipe will help you overcome the hangover thanks to bananas, rich in potassium, and almond milk, with a significant amount of iron. It will allow you to rehydrate and prevent nausea thanks to cinnamon.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 cup ice
  • Cinnamon to taste

Preparation:

Place all ingredients in a food mixer for 1 minute.

Green Zinger

This beverage will help you soothing nausea and leaving behind headache. It will allow you to rehydrate and detoxify at a time.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup filtered water
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • ½ small cucumber
  • 1 apple cut into small cubes
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 teaspoon extra virgin coconut oil
  • 1 handful spinach

Preparation:

Add the ingredients in the food mixer and turn on for 1 minute at high speed.

Berry Reviver

Coconut water present in this recipe has the rehydrating properties and ginger will help soothing your stomach.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups fresh spinach
  • 1 ginger cube of 1 cm
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 ½ cups frozen berries
  • 1 or 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/2 cup ice

Preparation:

Mix all the ingredients in a blender for 1 minute and serve.

Since good things don’t go out of fashion, the cocktails drank by our grandparents are still the perfect choice to relax and enjoy at home. Some of these classic cocktails you can prepare at home are the Americano, the Old-fashioned and the Sidecar. It will not be hard to prepare them and you will enjoy them as much as your grandparents did.

Americano

This cocktail was originally called “Milano Torino”, thanks to the origins of its two main ingredients. In the era of alcohol prohibition in the United States, its inhabitants spent their vacation in Europe and enjoyed this cocktail so often that Italians changed its name to “Americano”.

Ingredients:

  • Ice
  • 1 ½ ounces Campari
  • 1 ½ ounce sweet vermouth
  • 3 ounces of ice cold soda
  • 1 slice orange or lemon

Preparation:

  1. Mix the Campari and sweet vermouth in a shaker and serve.
  2. Fill with soda and ice.
  3. Garnish with a slice of orange or lemon. 

Old-Fashioned

There are records of its invention in the Waldorf-Astoria bar book, in 1931. On it appears the name of Colonel James Pepper, owner of Old 1776 whiskey and member of the club where the mix was prepared for the first time.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sugar cube
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon soda
  • One thin strip of lemon peel

Preparation:

  1. Mix the ingredients in a shaker, pour into a cocktail glass, garnish with lemon peel on the rim and serve. 

Sidecar

This cocktail of golden appearance was created in 1931 by Harry MacElhone, founder of Harry’s Bar in Paris thanks to a frequent customer of the bar who fought the cold generated by riding on a motorcycle with an aperitif. After his visit and several drinks he could not keep his balance and they brought him home in a sidecar (a vehicle hooked to the side of a bike).

  1. Put all the ingredients into the shaker, shake and pour into the glass.
  2. Add ice to your liking.
  3. Garnish with lemon peel on the rim of the glass.

Acapulco night, a holiday-flavoured cocktail

Acapulco cocktail is a drink from Mexico, with and easy home preparation that blends rum and tequila with the citrus flavours of orange. It is usually served in a tall glass or a cocktail glass with the rim previously frosted. Its orange coloured appearance reminds of the sunset from the Acapulco beaches and invites to take a moment in order to give up to enjoyment.

Ingredients:

  • 3 ounces white tequila
  • 1 ½ ounces white rum
  • 8 ounces orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 orange slice
  • 8 ice cubes

Preparation:

  1. Prepare the cocktail glass putting sugar in a small plate and in another small plate some orange. juice, place the rim of the glass in the juice and then in sugar for frosting.
  2. Place tequila, rum, orange juice and ice in a shaker.
  3. Stir for a few seconds and strain the result in frosted glasses.
  4. Garnish with a slice of orange on the rim of the glass.

There is an alcohol-free variation of the Acapulco night called Acapulco Golden, ideal for the youngest members of the family, consisting of orange juice, pineapple juice, whipped coconut cream and crushed ice. You can prepare it to incorporate the smallest ones to family occasions at home.

  3. Distribute the red fruits in the glasses and fill them with champagne.

Each country has its signature drinks; they are part of the wealth that attracts connoisseurs and tourists in general, and in the case of Italian cocktails, they became popular in the rest of the world.

Bellini

Created in 1948 by Guiseppe Capriani, bartender at Harry’s Bar in Venice, it is refreshing and sweet. The Italians prepare it the traditional way with peaches macerated in white wine and Prosecco instead of champagne.

Ingredients

  • 30 millilitres peach juice
  • 15 millilitres white wine
  • 90 millilitres Prosecco or champagne
  • 2 tablespoons cherry juice
  • 1 teaspoon cherry liqueur
  • Ice
  • 1 champagne glass

Preparation:

  1. Cool a champagne glass.
  2. In a shaker, pour the peach juice, a teaspoon of cherry liqueur and white wine, mix until the ingredients are unified.
  3. Open the shaker, add the prosecco or champagne and complete with previously crushed ice, stir and serve.

  • 30 millilitres Prosecco or champagne
  • 3 chopped fresh mint leaves
  • 1 sprig mint
  • Crushed ice
  • 1 Margarita glass

Preparation:

  1. Cool a Margarita glass.
  2. In a shaker, pour the crushed ice, lemon juice and vodka. Shake for 15 seconds.
  3. Serve in a Margarita glass and complete with prosecco or champagne.
  4. Add 3 chopped mint leaves and garnish with a sprig of mint.
