Get up with energy! The 5 best breakfasts in the world

 TAGS:undefined

Breakfast is the best meal of the day. It must be healthy and powerful, since many hours await us in which we will do all kinds of things: work, sport, walk… Do you want to know which are the best breakfasts in the world? Explore and make them at home.

Mexico and its “huevos rancheros”

Fried eggs served next to traditional corn bread filled with cheese, tomato and guacamole. And you can also add more ingredients. Without a doubt, a strong and powerful breakfast that can make you no longer hungry until lunchtime.

Full English breakfast

If the Mexican breakfast seemed strong, the English one is something similar but with more ingredients. It features fried egg, sausage, fried mushrooms, baked beans and tomato. In addition, you can add some toasts with butter. More than a breakfast, it is a complete meal.

Turkey and the Mediterranean flavours

The breakfast of Turkey does not fall short but, at least, introduces a series of foods that are part of the Mediterranean diet. There are tomatoes, cheese and cucumber… but more ingredients, like yogurt, can be added.

France and its croissants

This breakfast is more similar to the one we usually eat in Spain. It is usually a quick breakfast, consisting of coffee, croissant, butter, toast and orange juice. But we do not need to go to Paris to try, because we can make it at home every day.

Japan: rice and more

We do not know how people will think about starting the day with rice, but in Japan breakfast includes rice, tsukemono (pickled vegetables), fish, eggs and miso soup. It is an all-in-one that requires some time to eat calmly. We better leave it for the weekend.

In Moscow

The typical Russian breakfast is usually also plentiful. It consists of kasha or oat flakes cooked in milk, eggs, pancakes with cream, butterbrod (white or black bread with cheese and sausages) and dairy. It is delicious, although we will also need a reasonable amount of time to savour it.

4 Tips For A Healthy Life Drinking Wine

 TAGS:undefined

Every so often new studies documenting the health benefits from drinking wine are published, and almost just as often other studies showing links between diseases and frequent wine consumption appear.

Some of the benefits of enjoying a daily glass of wine include the reduction of cholesterol, stress and diabetes; on the other hand, you also risk the possibility of developing cancer and liver problems. With all this conflicting information it is ok to ask: Can you lead a healthy life when drinking wine? The answer is yes. In the wine itself certain elements are present that are known to be beneficial to health, and so it is advisable to drink a glass of wine a day.

4 tips for a healthy life drinking wine

Moderate consumption of wine does not have to be harmful to your health, indeed, it can even be beneficial if it is included as part of a lifestyle with healthy habits.

  1. Eat a healthy and balanced diet. The most important habit to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to consume a balanced diet with fruits and vegetables being the main food group and make sure your diet also contains sufficient fibre. There are numerous wines that are perfect for pairing with salads and stews. Meat and fish are also important parts of your diet but make sure to choose lean pieces and reduce the intake of animal fats.
  2. Lead an active life. Exercising on a regular basis also contributes to your overall health. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a strenuous sport, the most important thing for improving your health is to exercise regularly.
  3. Reduce stress in your life. Feeling relaxed and avoiding stress is just as important as eating well and exercising. A nice way to try to control the stress is to enjoy good times with friends from time to time, perhaps accompanied with a good bottle of wine.
  4. Drink wine responsibly. Wine can be part of a healthy lifestyle and can even be the perfect excuse to meet friends or to enjoy a meal in pleasant company. Just keep in mind to be aware of how much you drink – the recommendation is a daily glass of wine of 125 ml – and do not drink on an empty stomach.

So, yes, it is possible to lead a healthy life when drinking wine. And, by the way, although it is usually red wine that is mentioned when talking about the benefits of wine, it is worth mentioning that white wine possesses exactly the same positive health effects as red wine.

New Studies Reveal That Red Wine Has Additional Benefits To The Heart

 TAGS:undefined

There are already several proven studies that show that red wine is good for the heart. And now more evidence of its benefits has been discovered. The study comes from the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences of LSU in the United States, where they have developed a new stent that releases red wine antioxidants slowly over time, promoting healing and preventing blood clotting and inflammation.

The people responsible for this development explain that by delivering red wine antioxidants during conventional angioplasty, it may be possible to prevent the build-up of excess tissue and the blood vessel from narrowing again as it heals.

In addition to the stent, they are also in the process of developing a balloon coated with the same compounds to treat blood flow blockages throughout the body called peripheral artery disease. Drug-coated balloons are a relatively new product and are being developed to help interventional cardiologists treat arteries that are difficult to treat with traditional angioplasty and stent treatments.

As mentioned there are more studies that highlight the benefits that red wine possesses to protect the heart. A study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that resveratrol was unrelated to rates of heart disease, cancer and death. It was also shown in controlled studies that people who drink moderate amounts of alcohol, regardless of the type of drink, tend to have better blood records.

As for a recent study published by the National Institute of Wine Research in Australia, it was shown that drinking wine in moderation reduces the risk of heart disease. People who regularly drink a small amount of red wine, especially if accompanied with food, have a 30% lower risk of heart disease.

Improve Your Skills with Wine

 TAGS:undefined

There is always something new to read about alcohol and the effects it has on us. The dominant narrative concerns the necessity to drink in moderation and never to drink and drive. Naturally, Uvinum wholeheartedly supports prevention messages from health campaigns.

Nonetheless, recent studies shed a positive light on a moderate consumption of alcohol. The benefits of the Mediterranean diet have long been demonstrated by scientists, so we are not going to dwell on those. Instead, we discovered five studies proving that alcohol can enhance your skills.

Dancing skills

Last December, The Times published the results of a study by Professor David Nutt which declared that six glasses significantly improved your score at an Xbox dancing game. This corresponds to about one bottle of wine. However, it appears that this new-gained skill disappears beyond six drinks.

Foreign language skills

According to a study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology and conducted by the universities of the King’s College, Liverpool and Maastricht, one glass of alcohol has a positive impact on self-rated and observer-rated language performance. So, next time you go on holiday on a Spanish or Italian wine route, don’t hesitate to drink some wine to talk with locals.

Problem-solving skills

A new study by Professor Jennifer Wiley of the University of Illinois seems to prove that two glasses of wine or beer make you better and faster at brain teasers than if you were sober. Though, it might be worth pointing out that this effect is limited as alcohol enhances the creativity with which you can tackle a problem but your analytical skills dwindle.

Sense of smell

The Institute of Science in Israel proved in a study that two glasses of alcohol for women and three for men can improve our olfactory performances.  In other words, we identify various odour when slightly inebriated. Although, just as with the other skills, this advantage disappears beyond a moderate consumption.

Social skills

According to an article published in Psychological Science, having a few drinks can potentially improve your social skills. Alcohol seems to facilitate involvement in discussions and to make you smile more, thereby easing social bonding. However, shots of vodka will not replace healthy relationships.

The Benefits of Social Drinking

TAGS:undefinedDrinking is a social act that has now become a ritual to do in good company. Some studies show that social drinkers have more friends and emotional support in various situations of life. Social drinking can have a great effect on people’s well-being since it is related to social activities such as laughter, singing and dancing, which strengthens our social ties.

In years, the link between alcohol and the release of endorphins has also been shown, which is particularly relevant. But, of course, alcohol must be enjoyed with moderation. In fact, the activation of endorphins not only makes us more relaxed but also might tune the immune system, as it would be a musical instrument.

Drinking is definitely a social connector because it provides two potential social benefits: first of all, because moderate alcohol consumption increases psychological well-being and also favours directly or indirectly the building of close personal and social ties.

The latest research has shown that moderate alcohol consumption can have beneficial effects on cognition, including social cognition. Of course, we have to point that a healthy attitude towards alcohol consumption has grown up recently to prevent the abuse. And this is also a positive example for family and friends.

Healthy advises:

  • Do not combine food and drinks with snacks, especially when you are out with friends.
  • Do not use a carbonated beverage instead of the water between each drink.
  • Drinking quality wine instead of cheap wine.
  • Do not drink alone.
  • Do not drink if you are thinking of driving or during work.

Excess of alcohol could cause infertility; moderate consumption, not

 TAGS:undefined

Infertility is one of the problems that can tear couples apart, especially when the data tell us that this disorder affects almost 25% of people who want to have children in the Western world.

A study by the University Hospital of Aarhus (Denmark), which was echoed by the Spanish the newspaper ABC, has now revealed that one of the factors that could be the main responsible for the inability to conceive is the excessive consumption of alcohol. According to investigators, a weekly intake of 14 or more units of alcohol reduces fertility in women.

It is known that alcohol consumption during pregnancy can be very harmful to the developing fetus, but the data provided in the recent study support the argument that alcohol should be avoided also during the preconception of a baby.

However, and although it may seem surprising, the study also shows that moderate consumption, less than 8 units of alcohol weekly, has no effect on the ability to procreate, although it is true that it would be advisable to avoid alcohol during conception because at some point we may be already consuming in gestation, which, as we know, is dangerous.

The study was conducted for a year and was attended by more than 6,000 Danish women aged 21 to 45, who monitored their alcohol use, menstrual cycles, frequency of sexual relations with their partners and consumption of tobacco. They formed five study groups depending on the units of alcohol consumed by its members.

The findings indicate that the group consuming 14 or more units of alcohol per week reached only 12% of pregnancy rate, while groups who consumed less achieved 17%.

5 Tips to lose weight eating well

 TAGS:undefined

Holiday season has come to end and perhaps we still have tiny reminiscences of the great feasts we had. And let’s not lie to ourselves: it is completely normal that during Christmas we probably ate a little too much or more than the usual, but it’s fine and understandable; we don’t have a fixed schedule and have many events and commitments. But now, if you want, you can return to your normal life –and weight– without making too much diet. The thing is to have good health!

1. Five meals a day

Does it seem excessive? No, it is recommended by doctors and nutritionists to lead a healthy life and stay in great shape. It simply is eating first thing in the morning, mid-morning, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Obviously, the trick is just eat in small portions to avoid hungry and starvation.

2. The Mediterranean diet

To lose weight and eat healthy for life, the Mediterranean diet is one of the best recommended by specialists worldwide. It is a diet rich in fruits, seasonal produce, fish, salads, cereals and occasionally wine.

3. Weekly exercise plan

These diets should alternate and be supplemented with exercise. If you can do it daily it’d be better, but if it’s not possible, try at least twice a week. It’s about doing aerobic and abdominal exercises. New disciplines like Zumba or AeroStyle are very good since they make you move the whole body continuously and strengthen muscles to reduce fat. Exercise should be continuous, it is useless to go to the gym only one or two days a month.

4. Increase intake of fruit

Fruit is an antioxidant and it helps significantly to reduce fat. We can replace bread and sugary desserts and eat instead 3 pieces of fruit each day

5. Fish, fish, fish

In the same way, we must put aside fats, processed food and certain meats and increase consumption of fish, especially the blue one. Doctors recommend eating fish three times or more a week. Beware of sauces and condiments that accompany the fish: it’s much better grilling and serving it with vegetables and soy sauce.

Beer could help prevent breast cancer

 TAGS:undefined

Hops, one of the main ingredients of beer, could contribute effectively to the prevention of breast cancer. That’s what a study by experts from the University of Illinois at Chicago (USA) have recently discovered, and which has been published on Daily & Sunday Express, a British newspaper.

Hops is a flower responsible for bitter, spicy or citric flavors on beer and has been subjected to investigations that relate to hormone levels in both men and women, but the new study shows, apparently, that could activate chemical compounds that inhibit tumor development.

Scientists applied hop extract to two different breast cell lines to see the effect on the estrogen metabolism of cells, knowing the fact that a slower metabolism increases the risk of breast cancer.

The researchers found an ingredient of hops, called 6-prenylnarigenin (6-PN), which increases the rate of metabolism of estrogen, thus further research could demonstrate the effectiveness of this compound against cancer.

Compound 6-PN is a potent phytoestrogen that, when ingested, feeds the activity of hormones. In fact, women who work with this plant can have disruptions in their menstrual cycles. Also, it has been tested as a treatment for postmenopausal women suffering hot flashes, night sweats, and insomnia.

The research team has also found another similar compound, 8-prenylnarigenin (8-PN), apparently less effective, but should also be the subject of a further study.

No, wine will not replace your workout, but it can help you

 TAGS:undefined

A couple of years ago, a researcher and scientist at the University of Alberta, in Canada, Jason Dyck, published a study on the relationship between an element found in many foods, including grapes, called resveratrol and physical activity.

To the surprise of many, including scientists involved in the investigation, it was found that resveratrol shows very similar results to those that can be observed after a hard workout. Jason Dyck says that this element can help improve physical performance or help those who are unable to perform this type of activity because of limitations such as cardiovascular problems or exhaustion, among others.

While all this is true, much of the people, especially the Internet, has been convinced that drinking wine is a better alternative than going to the gym and sweat, and that is something that is not entirely true. Scientist Dyck has already conducted several interviews to try to clear up this confusion. First of all, Dyck says that physical activity can never be replaced by anything and is necessary to maintain a healthy body.

But not everything is bad news. Jason has continued his research and concluded that resveratrol could be used as an additive to increase performance when exercising. It also concluded with what we all know: a glass of wine a day is recommended for health benefits such as reducing bad cholesterol, prevention of various cancers and slowing of brain decline, among many others illnesses. So now that you know, go and exercise and, at the end, reward yourself with a fresh and nice well-deserved glass of wine.
