Is it better to serve wine at night?

 TAGS:

Serve wine at the best conditions can now depend on new factors. Such as light and sound, according to Oxford scientists. In the coming months the University of Oxford and Campo Viejo winery will test the impact of light and sound on the taste of wine.

For this experiment, at the Southbank Festival in London, thousands of people will be invited to enter the lab colors of Professor Charles Spence of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford. In this lab, they will be invited to drink in different glasses, some completely black, others exposed to light and sound. Campo Viejo Color Lab opens the Southbank in London on May 2 and runs through May 5.

Spence believes that the findings could influence the labeling of wines in the future. “Drink while listening to classical music” or “better served in the evening”

Spence, for The Telegraph:

“We ‘ve all been in this situation where you bring a bottle of wine back from vacation . You are eager to open it with friends. Yet it does not have quite the same taste as you remembered.”

“Of course, wine is always the same. The only thing that has changed is the environment. So if you want to enjoy your holiday wine, you must recreate as much as possible the initial environment. You may will have to wait for a sunny afternoon or a warm summer night. Change the music that recreates the atmosphere. Everything will help you get the flavor you remember.»

In a previous study from the University of Oxford, where experienced tasters tasted champagne in black glasses, they struggled to make the difference between sparkling wine and a cheap bottle of expensive champagne.

The results of this new study, commissioned by Campo Viejo, will be published by Professor Spence. But he can already say that the findings could lead to the end of the traditional sommelier: “I think the results of our study extend to restaurants and bars. They will reconsider the color of tablecloths, glassware, cutlery and even the color of the pictures on the walls. “

Today, we recommend two Campo Viejo to be tastes in the dark 😉

The Chinese vineyards threaten the habitat of the pandas

TAGS:The spread of the culture of wine (and its industry) may be a good engine of development for areas of the planet that had traditionally based their economy on agriculture, given that the final product has a higher value. This is especially true when the promoters of this adaptation are already experts, sometimes from the most recognized wine regions of the world.

The reverse of the coin is that this transformation of the economic activity of a region can have harmful effects on the environment, especially when it comes to traditional habitats of endangered species.

This is the case that has recently comes to light in the Chinese provinces of Shaanxi and Sichuan, which has announced planting 18,000 hectares of vineyards. These regions of China are the home of a stable population of 1,600 wild giant pandas, who are threatened by this project, according to reports from numerous environmental organizations and voices in the scientific world.

Although pandas usually live in protected reserves, which in principle would not be affected by the project, it is usual that they leave the defined area in search of new territories for feeding and breeding. The project might limit their mobility, being confronted with vineyard areas, plants that are absolutely foreign to these cute animals. The effects on their behavior are unknown, and it might question the viability of the species in these provinces.

In addition, if the grapes are grown on land traditionally used by cattle, this could be driven to invade panda?s reserves, entering into direct competition with them, which could be disastrous.

This is an issue that is worth considering carefully before making any move that could be beneficial for the local economy, but could also lead to an irreparable loss to the country’s natural heritage. In addition to the provinces listed, in the Liangshan prefecture, Aba and Ganzi, the issue is the same. It highlights the government’s economic priorities, which often clash with the conservation of nature, an always precarious balance.

As it is, before choosing wines from those areas of China, will you give a chance to the european wines? So we recommend:
