Vodka flavored with what?

TAGS:As we have seen in previous posts, vodka is one of the most consumed alcoholic beverages in the world, thanks in part to the ease with which you can combine it with soft drinks and use it as an ingredient in countless cocktails of all kinds, although originally the habit was to drink it single, as an accompaniment to any meal and to mitigate the cold prevailing in the countries of which is the autochthonous beverage (Russia, Baltic States and Central and Eastern Europe).

In the same way as with other beverages, such as whisky or wine, without going any further, the popularization leads to the appearance of luxury varieties, author editions, special reserves and, in the case at hand, many flavored vodkas with different aromas, mainly citrus, fruits of all kinds and spices.

The taste for novelty and experimentation has also created really curious and even bizarre specialties, such as a vodka elaborated in Alaska, flavored with smoked salmon, or others flavored with chocolate, whipped cream or pumpkin pie.

Some of the flavors that are appearing are taking the subject to the absolute limit, as in the case of producers who make flavored vodkas with peanut butter and jelly, green tea, cookie dough, cucumber, watermelon, cinnamon…

Most of these varieties, however, are designed for use in the preparation of cocktails, but it would be interesting -always keeping the essential moderation when consuming distillates in general- an experience like tasting some of the most spectacular flavors, among which we can include the above mentioned and others such as the fusion of vodka and sauvignon blanc or the vodka flavored with Naga Jolokia chili (the hottest in the world).

We don’t know if this would be legal here, but in Canada it sells a variety flavored with hemp, but we can always play it safe and try delicacies such as the Scorpion Vodka: it goes without saying that it includes a beautiful exemplar of these arachnids at the bottom of the bottle.

Simple and easy cocktails

It is time to give to your loved ones. Besides champagne and wine are, which are in all tables, the cocktails are ideal for a special occasion. Which do you prefer?

Champagne or/and cava are both of the most special drinks. For this reason, the cocktails mixed with cava will be delicious and, in this way, we use the cava sometimes leftover from open bottles.

The Champagne and mixed fruits give an exquisite flavour. You can combine a bit of a sparkling wine with peach juice. As simple and straight forward and, at the same time, original because you’ll surprise your guests by offering this combination. We recommend serving the cocktail before the meal as an aperitif.

Moreover, if you like sweet and creamy drinks, nothing like the White cocktail, made with amaretto, a cream liqueur of your choice and vodka. It makes a great dessert after eating so many candies. Its elaborations is simple: just mix the ingredients described above in a shaker and pour them in a martini glass for better decoration.

For those who prefer something without alcohol, is very easy to use fruit juices, cinnamon, vanilla and a little milk. We can also add sugar to make it even sweeter. We can mix the milk with natural fruit juices (orange, lemon…) apart and then pour in a crystal goblet. Then, add the spices, such as cinnamon or vanilla. We’ll put ice on int to make it much cooler.

Red is the colour of this year. The cocktails take this colour in order to offer a more festive feeling these days. You can make a fun cocktail mixing Campari, currant and strawberry liqueur. An explosive mix that will be sweet… even we we can add red berries.

How many times should a vodka be distilled?

TAGS:Have you ever heard about Vodka Jean Marc X.O.? Or more important, have you ever tried it? Today I write about vodka but rather than talking about vodka labels (which you know by heart for sure) I would like to dedicate some lines to the importance of the distillation process that has a direct influence on the quality and the final result of the drink.

The before mentioned vodka could beat the record of the most distillated vodkas of the world, which is around 9 times. Of course its price is high, above all if you compare it to other vodka labels and because it is that special it shouldn’t be mixed. (it’s not necessary mentioning that, but just in case).

Normally vodkas for commercial use go through 2 or 3 distillations. Sometimes this occurs in repeated distillations or isolated stills are used. The last distillation method is known as pot still and it is used for the production of Vodka Jean Marc XO.

The size of the stills also has an influence on the quality of the vodka. You cannot compare a distillation that occurs in a space of 40 metres to another one that takes place in a space of ten metres. The capacity of the stills depends on the type of production, if the distillery is more industrial or if they give more importance to the process than to the product itself.

That could be applied to any other product which tends to be commercialized: It is not the same buying a designer shirt than buying one in a supermarket. Also buying a red wine made of selected grapes is not the same than buying a table wine. The price is not the same either, but the experiences and sensations are worth it.

Among the most recommended vodkas, you can find Absolut, an example for a vodka obtained through long distillation. Belvedere Vodka is distilled four times, which seem only a few times compared to the six distillations used for Vodka Alpha Noble.  Russian Standard Imperia is one of the most exclusive and goes through eight distillations.

Vodka lovers should pay attention to that part of the process but also to the filtration, especially to the material used for the filters. Normally it is wooden but it can also be made out of apple tree, birch or french oak, as it is the case in the vodka mentioned at the beginning, with a difference in the result, of course.

If you are  a vodka lover, for sure you are interested in:

Vodka distillation process

TAGS:Has anyone heard of Jean Marc XO Vodka? And more importantly has anyone tasted it? Today it goes about vodkas but rather than talking about brands of vodka (that we all know by heart), I wanted to devote a few lines to the importance of the distillation process, which directly influences the quality and outcome of the drink.

The vodka brand that I mentioned in previous lines holds the record for being the one that is most times distilled in the world, no more and no less than nine times. Clearly, the price soars, especially in comparison with other vodka brands, and precisely why and because of how special it is it should not be mixed (needless to say, but just in case).

Common vodkas usually have two or three distillations in total. It is sometimes carried out in a continuous distillation process and other isolated stills are used. The latter method is known as pot still distillation and it is the one used for making the Jean Marc XO vodka.

The size of the stills also influences the quality of the resulting vodka. It is not the same a distillation which takes place in forty meters space than other which does it in ten. The capacity of the stills depends on the type of production that is sought. In other words: it will depend on how industrial is the distillery or on the importance they give to the process and the product itself.

The same applies to almost any other product that may be marketed: it is not the same a costume made shirt than the one you can buy in a supermarket chain, it is not the same selected vintage red wine than a table one. The price is not the same either, but the experience and the feelings are worth it.

Among the most desirable vodkas we have Absolut, an example of those which are obtained from a continuous distillation process. Belvedere vodka is distilled four times, which sounds like few if we compare it with the six distillations that are carried out to obtain the vodka Alpha Noble. Russian Standard Imperia is one of the most exclusive and has eight distillations under its favour.

Vodka lovers should pay attention to this part of the process but also to the filtering phase, especially with regard to the material used for the filter, which even though is usually wood, it can come from apple, birch or French oak tree, as is the case of the vodka we mentioned at the beginning of the post, with the resulting difference in the outcome.

The best vodkas

TAGS:Vodka is a type of distillate that can be spelled in different ways: Vodka, Wodka, Vodca,… What is out of any discussion is that it is one of the most universal alcohol types.

The origin of the vodka could also be a reason for discussions. It’s not well known if it has polish or russian origins but the original word meant “water of life”. From there the diminutive “vodca” which literally means “water”. After that they added a “k”, maybe for underlining its russian origin.

Vodka is an alcoholic beverage mixed with water. It was not produced through distillation but through fermentation of different products  as potatoes, rye, wheat and beet with water. After fermentation it was filtered in charcoal to separate the main water quantity and augment the alcohol content.

Every kind of grain distillate was called vodca, as a comparison to the whisky. When the vodka started to become famous in Europe and the USA it was produced through distillation as a form of making the process easier and augmenting the production.

Which one is the best vodka?

Usually a defect in other drinks, the lack of aromas in the vodka is its biggest virtue. While producing vodka what you want to achieve is a distillate with a high alcohol content coming from vegetable products that don’t add any flavour to the product. That’s the reason why we don’t find aged or aromatised vodkas on the market nor vodkas with herbs or artificial aromas. An exception is the polish Zubrowka that is mixed with fermentation paste to obtain a light yellow vodka with a certain flavour.

The biggest advantage of vodka is that because of its lack of aromas and flavours it gives strength to the vodka but it doesn’t make tired as it happens with brandies. That’s the reason why it is the perfect drink to use in cocktails with any type of juice as it doesn’t interfere on the aroma of the mixture and still has an alcohol content. It is one of the best distillates to combine with juices and with different vegetables as in the Bloody Mary.

Nowadays the vodka is one of the most consumed drinks in the world. Although in Baltic countries and in Russia it is still taken pure and cold to reduce the alcoholic sensation, in the rest of the world it has become a universal drink. There are many different producers and they changed and improved their elaboration techniques in the years. The vodkas you can find on the market now don’t have anything to do with the ones you could buy 10 years ago.

Do you want us to recommend you some vodkas? These are the most modern ones:

  • Vodka Grey Goose: One of the most trendy vodkas nowadays. It is produced by a french expert in cognacs through a new distillation process in 5 steps that make this vodka one of the purest.
  • Purity Vodka: Produced by Thomas Kuuttanen, one of the best and most prestigious mixers in the world. Just his name linked to this vodka is a guarantee of its quality and prestige.
  • Vodka Ketel One: The most revolutionary vodka on the market. First because of its homecountry Holland and second because it has a very light flavour which is a bit spicy at the same time. White magic.

And which one is your favourite vodka?

Screwdriver cocktail, the perfect combination

TAGS:The world of cocktails is exciting. Now more than ever we find different types, provided by the bartender?s imagination, the experts in this job. Soft, sweet, with an exotic touch, with alcohol or natural, you choose the one you prefer.

When it comes to talk about the classic and most popular cocktails, the screwdriver takes the top score, mainly because it is very easy to prepare and enjoyed by a great number of people. Come on, you will always be right with it.

In addition, we find it alike all over the world. The screwdriver cocktail consists of mixing vodka and orange juice. First we will put the ice in a cup, then the vodka and fill up the glass with orange juice; it depends on the taste to make it more or less strong.

As for the orange, we can combine it with orange soda for a lighter taste, or add orange juice to taste something more profound. Finally, put a slice of orange and you can also pour the edge of the glass with sugar.

Types of glasses

In this case, this drink accepts being prepared and use different types of glasses, from the Collins glass, to the champagne saucer. It is quite optional really.

Other combinations

To add an extra natural orange touch to the drink, we can add small pieces of orange in the glass, this will give more flavor to a simple mixture. But if you are looking for something different, you have other choices:

  • If you’re looking to give it more intensity, there are those who use Tabasco and thus give a spicy touch and accompany it with some snacks.
  • The Angostura will give a refreshing and bitter taste
  • Even if you are fond of cocktails as an aperitif, a few drops of Worcester sauce will help you get a much tastier screwdriver.

The propper time to consume it

The screwdriver is the most universal of all cocktails. The best time to consume is at night after a nice dinner when we are dancing in a bar or nightclub. But it is very nice after a meal to prevent us from getting “tipsy” since vodka is usually one of the stronger spirits.

Would you like a screwdriver? Then choose from one of our vodkas:
