What is a wine tasting?

A wine tasting is done in order to know what are the smells, tastes and colors of wine to catalog it and to conclude their properties, both visual and taste. It is performed by professionals or oenologists, but the tastings lately are aimed at wine lovers, amateurs and people who want to know more about wine culture.

Normally, in the tasting five different wines are tried, to appreciate diversity of shades, colors, flavors, spices and more to give tasting notes and scores to each wine. The tastings are usually made in bright locations, without odors and good temperature conditions, in addition to special transparent glasses.

The stages through which you pass in a wine tasting are basically three: Visual, olfactory and gustatory. It usually begins with theoretical explanations about wines, by the oenologist or professional who imparts the tasting, to pass then to the practical part. At each stage, an explanation of its various properties is given and you can even taste the wines with various foods to measure the power of taste.

Visual stage. Usually done to see the liquid of wine, its shade and color back-lit, always with a white or daylight background. It speaks a lot about the quality and age of the wine.

Olfactory stage. Bring the glass to your nose to appreciate the different aromas which gives the wine. First we notice primary aromas and then we can move the glass to smell the secondary aromas. And if you shake it more, you can notice the tertiary aromas, which often correspond to higher quality wines.

Gustatory stage. It is perhaps the most important when tasting wine. You should retain the wine in the mouth and then spit it into a container. Then you try it again and swallow it to see what are the effects on the palate. The sensations are total, whether if you spit or you swallow the wine.

The mulled wine is a typical drink in many countries. Although it is a traditional Christmas drink, is also consumed throughout the winter. In Germany it is known as Glühwein, and in the Scandinavian countries as Glögg, with small differences.

The hot wine was first registered as mulled wine in Rome in the second century, spread by the Romans who traveled across Europe carrying the recipe. Hot wine is also popular in England and the United States. It is a typical drink for winters, as well as others as Hot Toddy.

I practice athletics, ¿Can I drink wine without any problems?

Sports and wine are not incompatible and can coexist without any problems whenever the consumption is moderate. Indeed, numerous studies have shown that wine offers advantages and benefits for the body in general.

But it is normal that many athletes wonder if they can drink wine, because they spend a lot of energy and often eat and drink healthily, and do not want to lower their effort level. The truth is that moderate wine consumption is not only possible, but also provides benefits for those who practice athletics, among other sports.

However, doctors and nutritionists state that it is best not to drink too much wine just before competing. And it reaffirms because, according to studies of Sport Medicine journal, excessive wine consumption before practicing athletics can increase the number of injuries and the athlete will dehydrate much earlier.

Virtues of wine

On the other hand, the virtues of wine reaffirm the theory of cardiovascular benefits, especially for those who practice regular exercise. It also increases levels of good cholesterol and prevents the bad. Other benefits of moderate consumption of wine combined with sports is that it relaxes the muscles in the arteries, lowers blood pressure and helps preventing osteoporosis…

It is well known that red wine carries flavonoids, which are antioxidants that reduce the risk of heart disease. And American doctors have stated that ?a glass of wine with dinner the night before a race is nothing worrying?.

In addition, nutritionists state that each person processes alcohol differently, and that depends less on quantity. Some athletes and wine drinkers limit their intake to one or two glasses of wine or beer per day, and drink lots of water to compensate for dehydration, always before the day of the race or competition.

Long live to wine!

Did you know that alcohol excites but, in excess, delays orgasm?

Brain and cardiovascular system have an important role when coordinating the relationship between orgasm and drinking alcoholic beverages.

It has been proven that excessive alcohol consumption delays the moment of orgasm in both men and women, since the role of alcohol is depressant, so it makes you feel uninhibited when flirting and having sex, but physically the body is not ready.

The delayed response of the central nervous system may be useful for men who have trouble lasting longer during sex. However, excessive consumption of alcohol generates greater overall loss of sensitivity and poor performance.

As for women, the brain’s response to alcohol is quite useful if their problems are about inhibition and psychological type to reach an orgasm but, as in the case of men, excessive alcohol ends ruining the whole scenario.

Another disadvantage of excessive alcohol consumption in the sexual arena is that by decreasing sensitivity, you may also feel less pleasure with the stimuli presented, in the same way as when you get hit under the influence of alcohol you feel pain less intensity.

For men, excessive consumption of alcohol instead of delaying orgasm, also affects the cardiovascular system, and thereby the blood pumping to different parts of the body.

To reach an orgasm the sympathetic nervous system response must be activated, but is difficult to reach it if alcohol is consumed excessively. The best practice, therefore, is to drink in moderation. A good wine or a cocktail after dinner will give the evening a touch of sensuality, without spoiling the evening.

So what is the right choice? Low alcohol beverages or fruity cocktails, and the spirit, champagne or wine of your choice.

Wine and tea, a recipe for a longer life

Wine and tea consumption can prolong your life according to recent statements by Czech scientists, based on a study.

The study performed and subsequently presented at the European Society of Cardiology, during a Congress held in Barcelona indicates that both white and red wines work protectively against heart disease for those who exercise frequently.

The study consisted of monitoring for 1 year 146 people with a slight risk of heart disease: half of the people used to drink red wine and half white wine.

During this year of study, men were allowed to drink 300 ml wine and women 200ml up to 5 times a week.

Among these people subjected to study, there were no major changes in good cholesterol, but favorable changes among those who not only drank wine but also practiced exercise.

Apparently, merging exercise and wine strengthens the heart and prolongs life. Professor Taborsky (cardiologist from Palacký University, Czech Republic) said: ?Our study shows that the combination of moderate consumption of red or white wine and regular exercise improves markers of atherosclerosis, suggesting that this combination has a protective effect against cardiovascular disease?.

Another study presented alternately in the same conference showed that death rates from non-cardiac causes were 24% less among frequent tea drinkers than among non-regular tea drinkers.

Professor Nicholas Danchin from Georges Pompidou European Hospital, said: ?Tea has antioxidants that may provide survival benefits. Tea drinkers also have healthier life styles; if consumption of tea reflects a particular person profile or is tea, per se, improving the results, it remains for me an open question?.

?In answer to that question, I honestly recommend drinking tea instead of coffee ? and even more to not drink anything at all?.

With these results, the solutions to enhance lifestyle and health of our hearts are more relevant than ever and we can definitely get ourselves a longest and healthiest life by drinking tea and wine regularly.

Today we recommend two red wines with which, if you drink in moderation and practice exercise, we can not ensure you a longest life, but sure it will be mores pleasant:
