5. Yellow Tail. With nearly 13 million cases sold, the brand owned by Casella Wines is one of the largest in Australia, with a large volume of exports and currently expanding to conquer the British market.

4. Concha y Toro. More than 13 million cases worldwide. This brand Chilean, not in vain represents 33 % of total exports of the South American country.

3. Hardy?s. This Australian brand Accolade Wines Company can be found in more than 80 countries on five continents, with a special emphasis on the UK and a total of 14 million cases sold.

More and more celebrities and stars produce their own wines; fame increases the success of their releases, a phenomenon that we already witnessed in perfume and clothing. But the new trend for those stars seems to be the production of wine.

The couple formed by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie continues to be in the center of all the attention. Pitt took advantage of this situation by launching its inaugural vintage, and Angelina its Miraval Rosé 2012, which were sold in 5 hours.

This sales record had an impact on the wine community and generated reflections. It also showed the desperation of the fans for purchasing a wine bottle launched by Jolie and Pitt. This event generated many press releases and further interest in wine. In order not to take too much advantage of their names, the bottles were not marketed at exorbitant prices, with a 15 ? per bottle.

However, not every famous stars offer fair prices or accessible wine bottles onto the wine market. Yao Ming (former basketball player in the NBA) charged 390 Euros for every bottle of its first harvest. Other stars linked their names to wine like Fergie (Black Eyed Peas vocalist), Drew Barrymore, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi. But some of them engage themselves further in the process of production, vineyards and crops such as Francis Ford Coppola, who owns part of Inglenook Estate and has managed to create a great and highly respected brand in the wine marketplace.

The quality of the celebrities wines varies at least as much as their prices, and in my personal opinion they should be selected in the same way you would select a regular wine, unless you’re a self-confessed fan of any specific personality, and wish to purchase a bottle for your collection.

Saint-Julien, art in Bordeaux

 TAGS:Art in Bordeaux, this is what the wines of Saint-Julien are: interesting and different, unique pieces that proves us that no part of the preparation process has been taken lightly. Everything has a meaning, and, as with art, not always well understood. It is sometimes misinterpreted, but it often drives crazy with its greatness.

But let’s leave the abstract side of Saint-Julien to focus on practical data:  this region is located in the heart of the Medoc region, 900 hectares spread over 26 vineyards, which produce more than 6 million bottles a year.

Being situated between Margaux and Pauillac, comparisons with wines from these two terroirs are inevitable; although Saint-Julien always comes out unscathed … you don?t gather so many ?Grand Crus? per square kilometer for nothing…

The first notes of its fragrance give us information about its origins, Bordeaux. It has elegance and gradually overwhelms us. The wine is not exactly smooth, has character and is therefore perfect with hearty dishes like beef stew or roast, Spanish food specialties, like many of its ?tapas?.

I have not ever tried with fish, but I plan to investigate whether this combines with cod and halibut. Above all, I love to think how good can be a glass of Sant Julien accompanying a plate of Riojano Cod (peppers, garlic, onion, tomato, a speck of spice and of course, generous Olive oil). Occasionally you must treat yourself well.

In the region of Saint-Julien grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are common. We can also find Saint-Julien wine made from Malbec and Petit Verdot, it would not be our choice if we are looking for a classic, but which is nevertheless a good choice and proof that French wine is not as squared as it looks.

I recommend Château Lagrange 2005 or Chateau Saint Pierre 2000, which are also two of the best vintages in the region. A little cheaper, but also delicious, Connetable de talbot 2006 or Les fiefs de lagrange 2008.

How are the wines of Sardinia

The introduction of wine in Sardinia goes back many centuries ago and that is why it currently provides a wide range of wines, from reds to sparkling passing by whites. We must talk about the DO Alghero, that offers powerful wines, many of them enshrined in the Sella & Mosca winery, one of the most popular features transparent white, fine and pure Torbato grapes, ideal pink for summer as well as red with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and vernaccia di Oristano. Among the best-known wines, we want to speak about the cannonau, which is produced in the eastern part of the island. He has DO and fills the mouth with a dry and powerful flavor, a ?must try? if we are on the island.

Strangely, we can also find the Malvasia, a unique wine that we see in different Spanish regions. It also has the OD and is naturally sweet and dry. As elsewhere, are also perfect for desserts at the end of a great meal.

Next to Cannonau, Carignano is another of the popular wines of Sardinia. Basically made ??in the Sulcis area, it is known for its strong ruby color, very warm and full-bodied, usually taken with pastas, meats and sausages.

Other proposals of high quality wines on the island are the Mandrolisai, Moscato di Sorso and Sennori, or Vernaccia di Oristano, which also include designation of origin, and represent some of the most popular wines in Sardinia.

Beer to beat the heat

 TAGS:When the summer heat increases the wise decision is to take fluids to keep our body hydrated. Drinks like beer are emerging as a popular choice among the ones preferred by people, and the reason is that it is constituted by 92% of water.

Stellenbosch, the great South African wine area

Parker rejects the concept of “Parkerized wines”

 TAGS:Sometimes the power and influence that reach experts in specific disciplines – in this case the world and culture of wine – can lead to rather curious situations. In fact, in a recent interview given to the French magazine Terre de Vins, wine critic Robert Parker has been forced to comment on the growing buzz, (considered as a truth by many media) that certain winemakers adapt their products to the personal taste of the same Parker to eventually become one of the Wines Parker 100 +, since he is one of the most authoritative voices of the international winemaking.

This phenomenon, which has been called “Parkerisation” would imply that some wineries attach much importance to the critical verdicts (on the other hand, and this is absolutely true, they can multiply the value of a wine or depreciate it tremendously); even worth, it implies that some of them adapt it to Parker?s personal tastes. He did not agree with this assumption, explaining that it had no basis in reality.

Parker likes to define its tastes as “complex and varied”, something that would be impossible to reproduce. According to him, the desire of manufacturers to release a certain style of wine with powerful and mature taste is unreal, and if so, well it would be unnecessary and absurd. The reviewer ensures that its preferences are not as simple as that, but spread across a wide range of varieties which can include “from the delicacy and elegance of a Château Pape-Clément to the rich creaminess of Petrus or Trotanoy“.

In that interview, the American critic ensures that, in his opinion, the Bordeaux region is one that has one of the best quality-price ratio across the international market, providing the significant fact that when he started his activity in the late 70s that region would only count with 35 world-class wines, a figure that today could easily multiply by 10, indicating, however that it is probably the less known names that create the greatest treasures, citing Côtes de Bordeaux and satellite districts of Saint-Emilion as clear examples of this excellence.

How to pair beer well?

Luckily, nowadays we can enjoy a great range of beer flavours: sweet, bitter, somewhat spicy? that means we can mix them more efficiently with food flavours. Now, we can find ways to marry beer and food.

Lanzarote wines

 TAGS:The Canary Islands are popular for its beaches, great weather and nature reserves. But wine is also important with various denominations of origin which are increasingly present in restaurants and diner tables.

In this case, the OD of Lanzarote is one of the most popular of the island. This ideal place can count with a unique and special weather with high temperatures (averages about 20 º ) with many hours of sunlight. One of the curiosities of the island’s vineyards is that they sit on volcanic soils, with black volcanic ashes that prevent the growth of other vegetation, and also has excellent water retention properties. Those conditions are very unique, especially compared to other Spanish areas where wines are made.

However, the harvest is traditional, done without any machining. The grape varieties of this DO can be white or red. Among the first category we find the Volcanic Malvasia, Muscat of Alexandria, Gual and Verdelho. And, for the second, Black Listán or Almuñeco, Malvasia Rosada, Bastardo Negro, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Black Muscat. As you see, a wide variety of grape wine lead to those strong wines.

Lanzarote wines can be white, red, rosé, and sparkling, each one with its particular characteristics. Whites have yellow and transparent colors, and fruits and flower aromas, and fresh in the mouth. Sitting on the beach of Lanzarote, it will be a pleasure to have a rosé wine of this DO. Fruit aromas will be much more intense, being balanced and soft in the mouth.

The red wines are bright, with colors ranging from ruby to cherry. With a ripe fruit flavor, they have a strong persistence in the mouth. Sparkling wines, meanwhile, have fruit flavors, fresh aromas and are usually delicate in the mouth, so that it marries well with first dishes and desserts.
