D'Arenberg The Dry Dam Riesling 2017 (Riesling)
- View: A clear white colour with green flints in the glass
- Nose: Striking aromas of citrus and green apple along with white flower undertones.
- Mouth: This off-dry Riesling offers a wonderful balance between sweetness and acidity. The most notable flavours are ripe grapefruit and tangerine, supported by sherbet notes. The palate is richly textural and ends in a long finish.
APPELLATION: McLaren Vale
VINEYARD: Grown in one of d'Arenberg's vineyards in the Adelaide Hills in south Australia, all of which are NASAA Certified for organic and biodynamic processes. Dry Dam's name alludes to the fact that the grapes used come from dry-grown vines.
AGEING: The grapes are tenderly crushed and chilled before being basket pressed in small batches. The long and cool fermentation process and was stopped before reaching total dryness to ensure that some residual sugar lingered and balanced the high mineral acidity. Finally, the wine is aged in barrels with frequent testing to prevent overpowering oak flavour.
PREPARATION: D'Arenberg has a reputation for careful attention to the best harvesting and preparation practices in order to allow each grape variety to reach its full potential. The carefully-selected grapes were harvested in late February and March for ideal ripeness. The cooler weather during ripening for this year was favourable for producing sophisticated white wines.
