is a white variety from the Mediterranean, which can be classified into two groups: those which have a muscatel aroma and those with a simple flavour. It is also known as Malmsey, Rojal, Subirat and Tobia. The clusters are medium and loose, which results in white table wines, pudding wines and generous wines with high alcohol content, and occasionally, red wines. It is produced in Australia, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Portugal, the United States (California). It is the distinctive wine of several islands: the Canary Islands, Madeira, Sicily, Sardinia, Lipari, all of whom have formed the Association of European Islands Producers of Malvasia.
